First Responders Engage in OOGEEP’s New, Immersive, Hands-On Training

APPLE CREEK, OH– Over the weekend, Ohio first responders had the chance to participate in Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program’s (OOGEEP) GOSAFER (Gas & Oil Safety Awareness for Emergency Responders) hands-on training. The training is a first of its kind in the nation, offering education and experience to 18 firefighters and first responders specific to the natural gas and oil industry. Sunday’s training not only helped educate first responders but will keep communities in Ohio safe.

As a top energy producing state, it’s important for Ohio first responders to be experienced in the natural gas and oil industry. During this course, first responders completed a new virtual curriculum and then capped off their education on Sunday with hands-on training at the Wayne County Fire & Rescue Regional Training Facility. GoSafer Training includes several subjects including the fundamentals of natural gas and oil, site safety, HAZMAT, conventional and unconventional production and equipment, storage, processing, and transportation of petroleum products, and live-burn scenario training.

Thanks to Ohio’s natural gas and oil producers, this training was provided free of charge to participants. This year, Ascent Resources donated additional oilfield equipment to give trainees the most realistic experience possible and the new virtual training modules were made possible thanks to the Equitrans Midstream Foundation.
