OOGEEP’s Award-Winning Year in 2022

At the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP), ensuring that all Ohioans understand and appreciate the essential, natural resources the state possesses has always been the number one goal. This year the organization went above and beyond to complete that mission. In a year where an energy crisis shined a spotlight on the natural gas and oil industry, OOGEEP’s education of the state and country was recognized and awarded.

In 2022, OOGEEP held a number of stakeholder events and meetings, all with the goal of promoting the essential energy Ohioans rely on every day. In just one year the organization managed to host 65 educational and community events directly reaching more than 6,500 people. Workshops and trainings were also a focal point, reaching 119 educators, 24 first responders and four ODNR inspectors. As for the general public, earned media hits gained over one million impressions, with social media totaling more than 6.1 million impressions.

These efforts were recognized by organizations across the state and country. In April, the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance hosted its 32nd Annual Meeting. Over 150 members and guests were in attendance when OOGEEP was AWARDED the EODA Excellence Award in Education and Technology.

Another highlight of this year came with the relaunch of the ESSENTIAL OHIO ENERGY CAMPAIGN. The campaign used television and digital advertisements to garner more than 62.9 million impressions. These ads were shown to have a particularly positive impact on those who identify as independent or have no party affiliation, reaching a new audience with pertinent information on the natural gas and oil industry.

In October, OOGEEP was recognized for the incredible work the organization has done with this campaign. Executive Director George Brown attended the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) Annual Conference, IOGCC represents 38 states and is focused on conservation and efficient recovery and storage of domestic oil and gas resources. OOGEEP was honored with the 2022 IOGCC Chair’s Stewardship Award for Energy Education award for the ‘Essential Ohio Energy’ campaign. The award recognizes organizations that have gone above and beyond the call to enhance our nation’s natural resources. Overall, the CHAIR’S STEWARDSHIP AWARDS represent the commission’s highest honor for those making efforts in environmental stewardship.

“The OOGEEP team is passionate about educating Ohioans and those beyond on the great benefits of the natural gas and oil industry. This year it’s amazing to see those efforts rewarded,” said Brown, Executive Director of Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program. “I can’t wait to see what this team is able to accomplish in 2023.”

For decades OOGEEP has worked to reach out to the public and educate them on the essential natural gas and oil industry. In 2022, the organization worked tirelessly to continue that mission and their efforts were rewarded. Not only by the awards that were accepted by the organization but by the general public who better understands and appreciates this industry and those who work within it.
